Telus Storyhive features Dean Nelson

Telus Storyhive supports original stories told by BC and Alberta filmmakers. What better way to celebrate Pride Month than feature one of Storyhive’s videos.

Dean is the driving force behind Whistler Pride and Ski Festival for the past 11 years and was a instrumental in opening up Pride House at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. In 2016 Dean was recognized by his alma mater, Thompson Rivers University, with a human rights award.

Dean has been involved in numerous organizations and served on many boards including Travel Gay Canada, the Vancouver Pride Society and Interpride.

From Facebook ……  Thank you to the TELUS team and the incredible work of Mia and the STORYHIVE in helping me share my #PrideStory. Pride is a community and I could not have been able to accomplish what I have without the support of my community and my family. Thank you to my Whistler Pride and Ski Festival team: Sean & Mark, Tatiana, Wayne and Peter and the SkiOUT team for the early crazy years (and continued support); Ken for our next evolution of GayWhistler.com and Pride House; and Sonoo, Lisa, Karen, Gerry, John Sutherland and all of our volunteer Ski/Snowboard guides and our passionate volunteers. Thank you to Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) staff, Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden and council for their support over the past 25 years along with Whistler Blackcomb, Go Whistler and our hotel partners Aava Whistler Hotel, ResortQuest Whistler, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, and Whistler Premier.

Thank you to our sponsors and partners that have given us hope and determination to always do better and dare to be great: Finlandia Vodka, OUTtv, Whistler Question, Pique Newsmagazine, GayCalgary Magazine, Whistler Brewing Company, TD, Travel Gay Canada, IGLTA, InterPride – International Pride Organizers Association, Destination British Columbia, Tourism Vancouver.

Special thank you to my family and close friends. You have all been so important in keeping me somewhat grounded when everything else seemed to be going nuts. #LoveWins Tracy, Tim, Todd, Jag, Oliver and so many more… Wow. Thank you again.
