Indian Ads Begin to Welcome LGBT Themes

The tide is swiftly turning in favor of LGBT inclusion in respect to Indian advertising, Ad Age India reports.

Just this year, a Hindustan Unilever tea brand helped kick off the career of a transgender musical act, 6Pack. Elsewhere, an Indian startup ran an online ad about a lesbian woman seeking her father’s approval, and a clothing brand enlisted transgender models to fashion a new sari collection.

In a nation where discussion about LGBT themes is sparse on a national level, a select few Indian advertisers and content producers are beginning to center whole campaigns on tolerance and understanding of the LGBT community.
