Unnecessary Cruelty: US Transgender and LGBTQ Erasure

Is Progress Being Pulled Back?

With Vancouver Pride August 6, and news out of the US about LGBTQ rights coming under threat, it’s more important than ever to stand with the whole community as one. One event that comes to mind is the Vancouver Trans March 2017, which takes place on Friday August 4th. The March is organized by the Trans, Two Spirit, Genderqueer, Intersex March.

Matt Baume, from Seattle, Washington, presents his latest two videos about Trump’s surprise announcement on transgender military personal, the Justice Department arguing against civil rights laws that don’t cover LGBTQ people, and the Texas bathroom bill.

The second video discusses the issue of trans service members being too expensive. Are transgender military personal too expensive? Is there anything anyone can do about this?

With the LGBTQ community in the US under threat, Matt Baume gives a comprehensive perspective and up to date dialogue.

Fear

LGBTQ people are disproportionately affected by discrimination, and right now in the US, rights and protections are being challenged and threatened. Politicians are trying to erase Queer people from public life. It’s become overwhelming for many in the LGBTQ community.

The attack against the LGBTQ community is about fear, and this fear is being used to divide people. Matt explains some options open to the community and what can be done right now to help curb this disturbing trend.

Matt Baume is a Seattle based writer, journalist, and video-maker whose focus is on LGBT culture, geeks, and anything that is strange and wonderful. Author of the book Defining Marriage, and contributor to several US LGBTQ publications.
