CELEBRATE PRIDE SEASON AT VANCOUVER AQUARIUM’S AFTER HOURS

Vancouver, B.C. – Get freaky and fabulous at the next After Hours on Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Vancouver Aquarium®, an Ocean Wise® initiative. High-energy drag performances and surprising animal sex talks will keep Pride Week vibes strong at this risqué adults-only After Hours event. Leave the kids with the sitter, dress in your finest drag, grab a drink, and let loose with your partner and pals as you explore the Aquarium’s galleries and meet the fiercest animals in the sea.

“The Vancouver Aquarium celebrates diversity of all life, in and out of the oceans. Our staff and volunteers love coming together to host these extraordinary events,” says Internal Events planner Shawn Lammie. “We’re thrilled to partner with the Vancouver Pride Society, as we share many of the same values. We, too, are loud, proud and in full support of ocean conservation.”

This is not your typical visit to the Vancouver Aquarium. Enjoy special musical performances by three local drag queens, and learn about the outrageous reproductive strategies of marine creatures during Animal Sex Talks about coral sex, sea otter love and a shark’s favourite position. Show your Pride in true fashion when you don your most eye-catching outfit (please keep your clothing ocean-friendly, and omit beads, glitter, and sequins).

Take in the newest and most-loved exhibits and experiences at Vancouver Aquarium during this adults-only evening, and immerse yourself in the ocean plastic pollution crisis in Vortex, the provocative art installation by acclaimed author and artist Douglas Coupland. After Hours guests will get to know a few of the fascinating species in British Columbia’s waters during special programs with majestic Steller sea lions and playful sea otters, as well as a hands-on session with marine invertebrates in the Wet Lab.

An intimate affair, Pride After Hours is presented by Air Canada and will be open to guests 19 and older. Cocktails, beer, and wine will be available for purchase throughout the Aquarium.

Where: Vancouver Aquarium (845 Avison Way)

When: Aug. 1, 2019 from 7 to 11 p.m.

What: Adults-only access to Vancouver Aquarium, including the Wet Lab, all galleries, the new 4-D movie Reef Reborn and the brilliant new butterfly exhibit (open until 8 p.m.)
