WESA Hits Home Run with Philanthropy

$10,000 Donation to Five LGBTQ2 Organizations

What better way to celebrate going into its 40th season in 2018, than supporting LGBTQ2 organizations with donations raised during the 2017 season.

WESA, The West End Slo-pitch Association is a not for profit volunteer community based softball and social organization. Founded in 1978 with just four teams of gay and lesbian sports minded, and fun loving people, has grown to support 18 league teams with a diverse adult membership numbering over 260.

Softball is WESA’s sport, and community building is their social aim. WESA fosters bonds in the community, develops and promotes true sportsmanship, and raises funds for local LGBTQ2 charitable organizations.

5 Recipients of the 2017 Season are:

Health Initiative for Men: Community minded and volunteer driven, HIM involves and engages gay men to improve their physical, sexual, social and mental health.

LOUD Foundation Scholarships: Supports future leaders of the Canadian LGBTQ2 community by supporting students and offering scholarships.

PFLAG: works to create an environment of understanding so our LGBTQ2+ children can live with dignity and respect.

QMUNITY: Vancouver’s LGBTQ2+ community centre. Improving lives through connection and leadership.

UBC CampOUT: A social justice summer camp for LGBTQ2+ youth from British Columbia and the Yukon.

WESA League Commissioner, Darcy Simpson says, “Each of these organizations, like WESA, share a common goal of enhancing the LGBTQ2 community by buidling fellowship and goodwill. WESA is proud to donate to these organizations, who join the over 30 community organizations and charities that WESA has made donations to-of almost $100K over the past 30 years.
