Released in 1919, prior to the Nazi Regime, the Weimar Republic in Germany allowed filmmakers to produce films featuring topics relevant to the LGBT community. It was a progressive time when portrayals of gay relationships were featured in some silent movies.
The film has been restored and will premiere at the NewFest , The New York LGBT Film Festival.
Most of LGBT history from this time in Germany was destroyed by the Nazi’s, but this film survived.
